The Roundup: Welcome to September & the end of an era
Don't worry darling, pumpkin spice - and drama - are here
September 2022
Hello all, welcome to September: I held off sending this particular newsletter many times this week with the crush of news coming from every corner of the globe, but as I spoke with media friends in the UK earlier today, I knew what was coming so this issue is timely given the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This will dominate the global news cycle for the coming days, and while social media is messy right now discussing everything from her legacy, to colonialism, to certain family members and more, I say 70 years of service is tremendous and I respect her greatly for it, while still acknowledging the damage done by monarchy past (just ask parts of Africa and the Caribbean, India, or Ireland). Both can be true. As someone who lived in London, and is both American (not as well versed on how the Royals operate, for obvious reasons) and Canadian (more well versed, for obvious reasons), it will be interesting to see how this next era will shape not only the United Kingdom, but how the ripple effects will reach everywhere.
I also pushed my special theme to next month, because September always brings in a wave of cultural activity and I am in the middle of it here in NYC. Autumn is my favorite time of year, so no wonder I fled east to New York and New England to enjoy the seasonal change in color, live my best Gilmore Girls life, and do some business in my old home. So whatever the weather, get cozy, pull out the sweaters, grab a hot beverage, and let us begin.
